Purpose and Goals
Earth Creative’s Science & Education focus develops content into artistic and science-based educational resources for formal and informal education for students of all ages. It develops a network of participating schools and teachers and organizes future in-person and virtual/remote school visits by artists and scientists.
The Curriculum Resources section contains lesson plan ideas that formal and informal educators can use with their students. We have a new initiative called EYE (Earth Youth Expressionists.) These will be a series of activities that educators can use with their students to get them engaged in climate change through both science and the arts. This will be a continually growing and changing endeavor. Our goal is to make the lessons with a wide range that could be tailored to a variety of age groups. Educators can take these lesson plans and adapt them to the work for their students. The Earth Creative Artists (ECAs) will provide resources for student activities. Poetry writing lessons will be included. We will encourage social emotional learning strategies when students are facing difficult topics like climate change, habitat destruction, and social injustices. These emotions will be harnessed to encourage students to express themselves through creative outlets and to get out more in nature.
Environmental Justice is at the heart of the current climate crisis. Investigating local phenomena helps youth localize their climate research. When students research communities most affected by climate impact (human, animal, and plant), they learn to engage in studies of mutual species reliance and environmental responsibility. Investigating social and environmental injustice cases can help youth broaden their understanding of these topics. These resources will inspire students to gather and analyze data to create student-led climate action.
